Visiting Cuba
Jet Linx announced earlier this year that we received FAA approval for operations into Cuba. Despite word of relaxed regulations, travelers are bound by strict regulations when visiting the island country. Read on for more information on these constantly changing requirements.
12 Reasons to Visit Cuba
One common thread throughout recent U.S.-Cuban relations – and something you’ll frequently see mentioned – is the list of 12 approved reasons to travel to Cuba. As of yet, general tourist travel to Cuba isn’t allowed under American law, but there are 12 categories of travel granted “permanent pre-approved status” by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Be sure that your primary reason for travel falls into one of these categories: if you are visiting for professional research and professional meetings, but spend most of your time relaxing at the beach, you could be subject to legal penalties.
- Family visits
- Official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations
- Journalistic activity
- Professional research and professional meetings
- Educational activities
- Religious activities
- Public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions
- Support for the Cuban people
- Humanitarian projects
- Activities of private foundations or research or educational institutes
- Exportation, importation, or transmission of information or information materials
- Certain authorized export transactions
